Remember how I said in my last post I was back after not having posted for a month? Yeah, I lied. Sorry about that. I could sit here and list every reason why the blog hasn’t been a priority in these past months but instead I’m just gonna get straight to it – starting today, mondays will be a place of wonderful inspiration here on COB.
Mondays are always extra gray, boring and hard to get through (friday is so far away!). That’s why I’ve decided that on this blog, monday shall be known as the day of being inspired. Each week I’ll focus on a different theme and share my favorite pictures from Pinterest or Tumblr. This weeks theme: christmas wishlist inspiration! It is December after all. These are the some of the things I wish to be underneath the christmas tree this year.
Apologies for my absence, my life has been one big mess lately. Literally, you should see the state my room (and our entire house) is in right now. There’s alot of changes happening all at once and I am stressed out to the max. So much to do, so many boxes to pack and then unpack, so many hours to spend looking for a new place to live, so few months to do it! But I’m back now, and I’m here to tell you that this months Glossybox is rad. Yes, rad. Here’s why:
Inside the box:
- Naobay Protective Shampoo & Shower Gel – Combined shampoo and shower gel where 99% of the ingredients are natural and organic. My thoughts: not too excited over the fact that it’s a shower gel and shampoo in one but hey, don’t knock it ’til you try it, right? And it’s all natural which is always a plus!
- Garnier Miracle Skin Cream – Meant to instantly even your skintone and hydrate for 24 hours. Reduces wrinkles and fine lines and improves skin quality if used over a longer period of time. My thoughts: I saw one of my favorite bloggers rave about this and was so excited when I got it in this box! But I just tried it and I’m not feeling too optimistic about it. Basically, if you have fair skin – don’t bother. Like most products that “adjusts” to your skintone, it’s way too orange and too dark. It also feels too heavy on the skin without actually doing anything to improve the look of it. Not my cup of tea.
- Hot Makeup Loose Eyeshadow – Metallic eyeshadow with great pigmentation that gives a shimmering and lasting effect. My thoughts: oooh. Not a big fan of loose powder anything, really. It’s too messy for my slight OCD tendencies. But I swatched it on my hand and it’s a pretty color. I’m sure it’ll come in handy… Hopefully.
- Sumita Beauty Eye Shadow Pencil – The card describes it as an eyeliner, which it is clearly not so let’s not listen to the card anymore. My thoughts: the color is gorgeous and as always, I am intrigued by anything that comes in a crayon like packaging; lip crayons, eyeshadow crayons, concealer crayons, I’LL TAKE THEM ALL! It’s creamy and easy to blend, I can’t wait to try this out! Quite possibly my favorite product in this box.
- Emma S Cleansing Facial Wash – Bestseller, apparently. A moisturizing, foaming facial cleanser that keeps your skin fresh, clear and clean. My thoughts: I’ve been wanting to buy a slightly cheaper cleanser to use in the morning, because my Emma Hardie one is pretty expensive (especially with shipping and taxes. Oh dear, I don’t even want to think about it). Hope this one will tickle my fancy!
All in all I’m pretty happy with this box. In previous boxes there’s been a lot of small sized products, sample sizes that you can get for free in shops even! Therefore I was happy that these products, with the exception of one, were all full size. I am now going to go wash off this horrible Garnier product with my new cleanser, good bye.
You’re probably wondering what the hell a matte hand cream is. Well, it is the replenishing hand cream from Molton Brown. But, how is it matte? It’s not. But that is the only way I can think of to describe it.What sold me on this was the small size and the cute colors. I’m sucker for packaging. If it’s pretty, I want it. But when I tried this I quickly understood that this is not your typical hand cream. First of all, it has a slight cooling effect when you first apply it, which I love. Secondly, it doesn’t leave your hands feeling greasy, in fact, it does quite the opposite. The only way I can think of to describe it is to compare it to matte foundations. It moisturizes your hands but it kind of dries matte. Because of this and the small size, it makes for a perfect hand bag hand cream. Definitely one to try out. It comes in different scents and this one, Pink Pepperpod, smells rather nice. However, it does linger on your skin so for those of you who’s not big on heavily scented products, maybe skip this one.
(PS. My camera’s battery is dead and the charger is currently in Spain. So it might get a bit quiet here until I get it back!)
I went in, shopping list at the ready, hunting for only a few things but walked out with a few more.
THE BODY: I got these three products for free when paying over 500kr (ca. 84$/50£), yay! The first thing is a miniature Chocomania Shower Cream and what a shock — it smells like chocolate. Not my usual scent of choice but I certainly wasn’t about to say no to some free products. It will be a nice change from my usual fruity, fresh scents. To match it I also got a full size Chocomania Body Butter. I love TBS’ body butters so I’m excited to have gotten this. The last thing in the bag was the Spa Wisdom Japan Adzuki Bean & Rice Washing Grains. I had to look this up as I would have no idea how to use this. It says it is inspired by Japanese Bathing Rituals. Interesting. If I get on with this nicely, I’ll be sure to let you guys know.
THE FACE: Initally I went in there to get three things; the cleansing oil, the serum and the Vitamin E Cream Cleanser. Sadly they were sold out of the cleanser, but I did manage to get my hands on the other two. After seeing my favorite beauty bloggers/vloggers continuously talking about the Camoile Silky Cleansing Oil I just had to get it. I had no choice in the matter, really. I have also heard good things about the Vitamin E Moisture Serum and after trying Hydraluron without much luck (pretty damn sure it broke me out — something that never happens), I was in need of a new serum. Then lastly I got the Vitamin E Nourishing Night Cream mainly because I needed to buy one more thing to be eligible for the free gift but also because my Estée Lauder moisturizer is running low.
Those were the results of my rather spontaneous trip to The Body Shop. What’s on your wishlist to try from there? Let me know, so I can put it on mine too ;-)
Well, my first and second. When I arrived at my parents’ house this past weekend (I still get my mail sent there) there were no less than two Glossyboxes waiting for me. I’ve been dying to open them up since before my trip to Spain! Are you up for an unboxing and a mini review on the ones I’ve tried? Let’s jump right in, we have a lot to get through:Inside the April box:
- Matrix Biolage ColorLast Shampoo & Conditioner – Meant to keep your color from fading, balance moisture and even out your hairs surface for intense color that lasts. My thoughts: Never heard of these before, but I’m excited to try them out and see if they work. They smell quite nice and I like the small size making it easy for travelling.
Emite Make Up L312 Lip Brush – It says this lip brush is cut diagonally resulting in precise application of lipstick. The card also mentions that it has synthetic bristles which makes for easy cleaning and that it can be used to draw a thick eyeliner as well. My thoughts: I don’t really use lip brushes, but I’m sure I can find a use for this brush.
Être Belle Liplift Peel – Exfoliator that gently removes dead skincells and makes your lips soft. Full size product. My thoughts: I’ve been meaning to buy a lip exfoliant for some time now so this could not be more perfect. I’ve tried it and it does what it says, it’s not life-changing or anything but it does make my lips smoother (keep in mind my lips aren’t chapped to begin with).
Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream – Calming cream that gives deep moisturization to dry skin. My thoughts: It feels nice on the skin, but it earns a few minus points as it doesn’t have a very pleasant scent and will only be enough for about 2-3 uses.
Brilliant Smile Whitening Boost Toothpaste – A whitening treatment in the form of a toothpaste. To be used twice a day for two weeks. The second full size product in this box. My thoughts: I’m always up for trying out teeth whitening products, so I’m excited about this. If I like it, I’ll get back to you!
Inside the March box:
- Mitchell And Peach Body Cream – Nourishing body cream that contains honey, organic cocoa, vitamin B5 and sheabutter. My thoughts: oh my word, this smells SO GOOD! It’s not the kind of scent I would usually go for but I find it surprisingly delicious. As for doing what it’s supposed to I have yet to find out about that.
Sleek Pout Paint in Milkshake and Mauve Over – Described as a unique lipstain in the sense that you can choose how much coverage you want; simply layer it up for a more pigmented look. My thoughts: I was excited to see Sleek products in my box but I must say I don’t really get the description of this lipstain. When I tried it out, the color was super pigmented right of the bat. Definitely no need for layering! Maybe I’m doing it wrong? It also doesn’t have an applicator so you have to use your hands or a brush (maybe that lip brush from the other box will have a purpose after all?). Over all an okay product, I just have to figure out the best way to use it.
Models Own Nail Polish – Surely this needs no description, we all know what a nailpolish is, don’t we? My thoughts: If you’ve ever tried a nailpolish from Models Own, you know that the quality isn’t exactly top notch. I would’ve preferred a solid color as I already have two nailpolishes similar to this, in fact I think this is the cheaper, less good glitter version of the gorgeous Essie Shine Of The Times.
Egyptian Magic All Purpose Skin Cream – Very rich cream that moisturizes and repairs – a lifesaver for dry knuckles, elbows, lips, etc. Contains only natural ingredients. My thoughts: I’ve been wanting to try this actually. I have high hopes for this one.
MeMeMe Cosmetics Compact Mirror – Pretty self-explanatory. I didn’t already have one so this comes in handy for me.
Over all I’m pretty pleased with the products received. Some hits, some misses but what I enjoyed most was the unboxing. The packaging is so pretty and there’s something really exciting about not knowing what you get. I will definitely keep my subscription, for now. P.S. the best part is that the lid of these boxes fit perfectly in my VERY shallow drawers in my vanity, so there will be a little DIY going on in the near future. Yay! Maybe I can finally get my makeup properly organized!
Do you subscribe to any of these types of boxes?
Like previously mentioned, I did some damage whilst in Oviedo a few weeks back. I’ve also bought a few bits and pieces here in Ribadeo and I thought I’d show you what I got. They had a Sephora in Oviedo and as always when I see that store, I let out a shriek of joy. I got even more excited when I saw they had Benefit, one of the many brands we can’t get in Norway. So I picked up a few backups of my favorite mascara, They’re Real. I’ve written about it here if you want to know more about it. I also put the Porefessional Primer in my basket, as I’ve heard amazing things about it. I’ve had a chance to try it out and oh my goodness, what is this kind of magic? The last Benefit product I picked up was their blush in Coralista. It’s slightly reminiscent of Nars Orgasm, only more pink. It’s absolutely gorgeous, as is the smell! Honestly, the scent alone is reason enough to add this one to your collection.I finally caved and bought the GLAMGLOW Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment. I received a sample of this that I tried right before going to Spain. The results were instant and quite exquisite. So therefore it just had to come home with me. Who am I to say no to that very inviting packaging with an even more inviting product inside?Next I went to a Spanish department store called El Corte Inglés and from Bourjois I picked up two lip products I’ve had on my makeup shopping list (yes, that’s a thing, and, yes, it’s way too freakin’ long) for quite some time. Color Boost Glossy Finish Stick in the colors Orange Punch and Plum Russian. Gorgeous colors, but I find that when I apply them straight onto my lips they tend to go on a little patchy and are slightly drying so be warned. They’re perfectly fine when paired with lip balm though, so well worth it.
I was also delighted to see the Maybelline Baby Lips. I picked up Hydrate and Cherry Me, one transparent with a scent that I can’t quite explain but trust me when I say it’s heavenly, and the other a very sheer cherry pink with a scent to match the name. They sell perfume, makeup and nailpolish at even the smallest of grocery stores here, something that’s very new to me. But it sure makes grocery shopping all the more fun! So, 3/4 items pictured above were purchased at grocery stores. Firstly, L’oréal Color Infallible Eyeshadow in Hourglass Beige. It has glitter in it which I don’t usually go for, but it’s so finely milled that it’s not one of those that end up all over your face and just looks chunky. This eyeshadow is stunning. Next, two nailpolishes from Essence in the colors Off To Miami! and Purple Sugar. The formula of these are awesome, it makes the application such an easy process and it dries quickly. The very last thing I’ve picked up so far is the Maybelline The Rocket Mascara. At least I think that’s the name… As you can see, the packaging is in Spanish.
Time for some swatches:Here you can see the blush, the eyeshadow, the baby lips in Cherry Me and the primer in action.
That’s it for my beauty haul! For now, anyway. Have a great day!
Hello! I figured a little update from Spain was in order. I’m having a great time here in Ribadeo. The surrounding nature is gorgeous and my favorite thing to do here is to drive along the coast and stop at some random beach, which we tend to get all to ourselves, and just take it all in. We usually bring some food and drinks with us, as well as our cameras of course, and just chill at the beach for hours.
Here’s a little photo diary from my time here so far:At a very popular tourist attraction here in Ribadeo, the beach called Playa de Las Catedrales. Gorgeous, but crowded. Spain has definitely brought out the photographer in me. Being surrounded by so much beauty has really inspired me to get back into my former hobby.Another day, another beach!A few polaroids from Playa de Los Castros. Can’t wait to get home and scan these babies!
Not so early morning fog.Faro de Isla Pancha. I’ve fallen in love with little island. It’s one of my favorite places in Ribadeo for sure.On rainy days I only have two things on my to do list: watching Audrey Hepburn movies (anyone get the My Fair Lady reference in the title?) and catching up on all videos, TV shows and blogposts I’ve missed out on. Makes for a perfect relaxing day!
In that last picture, you get a sneak peek of an upcoming haul. On my second day here we decided to drive an hour away to a city called Oviedo. And, well, I went a little crazy in the shops so a beauty and fashion haul will be coming your way soon!
Tomorrow I fly to Spain and I thought I’d share my outfit with you. I have yet to decide which top I’ll wear though, so I took a photo of both options. The pink floral top is from Zara, the cream blouse is from Saint Tropez, unfortunately neither are available online as I bought them a while ago. I’ll be wearing my new favorite jeans, the ASOS Ridley High Waisted Skinny Jeans in Indigo paired with my leopard patterned slip-ons from H&M that are in stores now. The necklace is from a scandinavian store called Bikbok, but is only included in the picture to make it look good, haha. I never wear jewellery when I fly, because I hate going through security with it.
As for my makeup I’ll be keeping things minimal with my Nars Sheer Glow Foundation to cover up any redness that may occur, a little bit of Benefit They’re Real Mascara on curled lashes, a wash of color on my lids by using my Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo in On and On Bronze (also known as Bad To The Bronze) and finally topping it off with my YSL Volupté Sheer Candy in Mouthwatering Berry.
When it comes to my eye makeup, I believe I have found my holy grail products that I’ll never stray from. That being said, though, you never know what amazing products you’re gonna stumble upon in the future but for now, these are the three products that I use every single day to achieve my desired look.To start off, I use my Lancôme Artliner to line my eyes. I either do a really simple, thin line to simply make my lashes appear fuller or I go for a winged liner look. It really depends what I’m in the mood for that day. The next step is to curl my lashes and then apply my all time favorite mascara Benefit They’re Real. This stuff is amazing and since I tried it for the first time, I have never looked back. You can either get a natural look with this or you can build it up to look quite dramatic. I personally like to go heavy on the mascara! Then, for my bottom lashes, I use the Lancôme Hypnôse Star Mascara. When I first bought this I had every intention to use it on my upper lashes, but I disliked the brush and the way it made my lashes look. I much prefer the Benefit one. But guess what, it does wonders for my bottom lashes. I even like it better than my Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara!
On my wishlist right now is the gorgeous Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Dim Infusion and Luminous Flush (or just every single color):
…Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation:
…Dior Creme De Rose Lipbalm:
…and lastly Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow:
What’s on your makeup wishlist at them moment?
