It’s time to rid ourselves of the dry and chapped lips that winter often leaves us with and put away the dark purple lipsticks to make room for fresh colors for spring! To start of spring the right way, make this easy and quick lip scrub that’s made up of things you already have at hand:Ingredients:
1 tsp. honey
2 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. olive oil
Mix all your ingredients together in a small bowl. Apply the finished product and massage it in to your lips for 20-30 seconds and then remove with water or a tissue. The best part? You can use it on pretty much any part of your body (though I wouldn’t recommend using it on your face as the sugar is probably too harsh)! The sugar granules will exfoliate while the oil and the honey heal and moisturize. You can use it all on your lips and body or store whatever remains in a container.
Now that our lips are looking luscious again it’s time to update the lip products in our makeup bag. Here are my favorites for spring time:L-R: Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in “Peach Parfait” – Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in #20 – Maybelline Baby Lips in “Peach Kiss” – Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in “Pink Pong” – NYX Butter Gloss in “Crème Brulee” and “Peaches & Cream”
Over the last two years I’ve gone through more pencils of Anastasia Brow Wiz than I care to remember (mainly due to the stiff price * gulps *). It’s a pretty safe bet that it is my favorite brow product. But I find that after having used one product for a few months, my eyebrows crave a change. You might think that sounds weird, and it does, but after a while my brows stop looking good as if to tell me it’s time to switch it up. Naturally, I listen. Your wish is my command, brows.
This is why I alternate between my beloved Brow Wiz and good ‘ole powder. My favorite powder to use on my eyebrows comes in the form of an eyeshadow (or two). The Too Faced Natural Eye Palette contains one light brown, almost beige matte and one dark brown matte. I like to mix them together to create the perfect color for my brows. This palette is an all time favorite of mine and every time I bring it back out to play I’m reminded of how amazing it is.Too Faced recently relaunched a new and improved version of this palette, with better packaging and a few new colors. Right now I am trying to contain myself and use up mine before buying the new version. It’s hard (#FirstWorldProblems)
Like previously mentioned, I did some damage whilst in Oviedo a few weeks back. I’ve also bought a few bits and pieces here in Ribadeo and I thought I’d show you what I got. They had a Sephora in Oviedo and as always when I see that store, I let out a shriek of joy. I got even more excited when I saw they had Benefit, one of the many brands we can’t get in Norway. So I picked up a few backups of my favorite mascara, They’re Real. I’ve written about it here if you want to know more about it. I also put the Porefessional Primer in my basket, as I’ve heard amazing things about it. I’ve had a chance to try it out and oh my goodness, what is this kind of magic? The last Benefit product I picked up was their blush in Coralista. It’s slightly reminiscent of Nars Orgasm, only more pink. It’s absolutely gorgeous, as is the smell! Honestly, the scent alone is reason enough to add this one to your collection.I finally caved and bought the GLAMGLOW Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment. I received a sample of this that I tried right before going to Spain. The results were instant and quite exquisite. So therefore it just had to come home with me. Who am I to say no to that very inviting packaging with an even more inviting product inside?Next I went to a Spanish department store called El Corte Inglés and from Bourjois I picked up two lip products I’ve had on my makeup shopping list (yes, that’s a thing, and, yes, it’s way too freakin’ long) for quite some time. Color Boost Glossy Finish Stick in the colors Orange Punch and Plum Russian. Gorgeous colors, but I find that when I apply them straight onto my lips they tend to go on a little patchy and are slightly drying so be warned. They’re perfectly fine when paired with lip balm though, so well worth it.
I was also delighted to see the Maybelline Baby Lips. I picked up Hydrate and Cherry Me, one transparent with a scent that I can’t quite explain but trust me when I say it’s heavenly, and the other a very sheer cherry pink with a scent to match the name. They sell perfume, makeup and nailpolish at even the smallest of grocery stores here, something that’s very new to me. But it sure makes grocery shopping all the more fun! So, 3/4 items pictured above were purchased at grocery stores. Firstly, L’oréal Color Infallible Eyeshadow in Hourglass Beige. It has glitter in it which I don’t usually go for, but it’s so finely milled that it’s not one of those that end up all over your face and just looks chunky. This eyeshadow is stunning. Next, two nailpolishes from Essence in the colors Off To Miami! and Purple Sugar. The formula of these are awesome, it makes the application such an easy process and it dries quickly. The very last thing I’ve picked up so far is the Maybelline The Rocket Mascara. At least I think that’s the name… As you can see, the packaging is in Spanish.
Time for some swatches:Here you can see the blush, the eyeshadow, the baby lips in Cherry Me and the primer in action.
That’s it for my beauty haul! For now, anyway. Have a great day!
Tomorrow I fly to Spain and I thought I’d share my outfit with you. I have yet to decide which top I’ll wear though, so I took a photo of both options. The pink floral top is from Zara, the cream blouse is from Saint Tropez, unfortunately neither are available online as I bought them a while ago. I’ll be wearing my new favorite jeans, the ASOS Ridley High Waisted Skinny Jeans in Indigo paired with my leopard patterned slip-ons from H&M that are in stores now. The necklace is from a scandinavian store called Bikbok, but is only included in the picture to make it look good, haha. I never wear jewellery when I fly, because I hate going through security with it.
As for my makeup I’ll be keeping things minimal with my Nars Sheer Glow Foundation to cover up any redness that may occur, a little bit of Benefit They’re Real Mascara on curled lashes, a wash of color on my lids by using my Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo in On and On Bronze (also known as Bad To The Bronze) and finally topping it off with my YSL Volupté Sheer Candy in Mouthwatering Berry.
I am going to Spain in the middle of April to visit my dad who’s currently working down there. I’m flying alone, for the first time ever I may add, with no less than three connecting flights so to make it easier for myself, I am packing my main suitcase two weeks beforehand to send it off with my parents who’s leaving at the end of this month. So in the next three weeks or so, I will be posting quite a few travel related posts, starting with this one.
This is all the makeup I’m taking with me. As you can see, it’s not a lot. I imagine there will be many makeup free days while I’m there, so not much is needed. I’m bringing two foundations, one that matches my skin now, and one that will match my skin once I get my tan on. I’ve talked about both before (see my Top 3: Foundations post) so I won’t go on about them. I’ve picked two concealers too, and just like the foundations, one is lighter, and the other is darker. The light one being my Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer. The darker one is my all time favorite concealer Estée Lauder Double Wear Concealer.
As for eyeshadow, I’m packing a Wet N Wild Eyeshadow Trio in Walking On Eggshells for if we decide to go to a more fancy restaurant one night. I’ll need to prime my eyelids before using the Wet N Wild trio so my trusty Urban Decay Primer Potion is coming with. And for those days when I simply want a wash of color on my lids, I’ll be using the Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo in On and On Bronze. My usual mascara duo (Benefit They’re Real and Lancôme Hypnôse Star) and liquid eyeliner (Lancôme Artliner) is also packed. And the last product needed for the perfect eye, is my beloved Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz.
Now that I’ve got the perfect base and eye down, it’s time to bring some life to my cheeks. For this, I’m bringing my Estée Lauder Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelée Blush in Tease (I talked about it here), my Nars Orgasm Blush, my Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strips in Miami Strip and lastly my Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base (featured in my february favorites).
The Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers (I’m bringing the shades Aurora and Celestial) are perfect for a pop of color on the lips. For a more subtle shine I’m taking my favorite Revlon Lip Butter, Peach Parfait, with me. All of these products are going in my gorgeous Lulu’s makeup bag. How amazing is this makeup bag? I’m in love with it. Well-made, timeless and practical, too! Makeup on one side, brushes or skincare products on the other.
OK, so the title is slightly misleading… None of these are actually lipsticks, but I figured since I pretty much never use lipsticks anyway, and frankly don’t know what else to title this post, it wouldn’t be a problem.
From top to bottom: YSL Volupté Sheer Candy Glossy Balm in Mouthwatering Berry, Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Peach Parfait, L’Oréal Colour Riche Caresse Wet Shine Stain in Stubborn Plum one layer, and again with two layers.
First up, Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Peach Parfait is a gorgeous peachy color with finely milled gold glitter particles. On my lips, this looks more like a muted, dark coral color than a peachy color. It’s kind of a “My Lips But Better” color but with shimmer. It’s not particularly long lasting so re-application is necessary throughout the day. With ingredients like shea, coconut butter and mango, it’s nice and hydrating on the lips. I’m on my second tube of this, I love it so much!
When I want a plum shade that is less intimidating than your usual dark color, L’Oréal Colour Riche Caresse Wet Shine Stain in Stubborn Plum is the one I reach for.
Out of these three, the YSL Volupté Sheer Candy Glossy Balm in Mouthwatering Berry is without a doubt the one I use the most. It looks scary in the tube but on the lips it gives a sheer and gorgeous sheen. It’s moisturizing and feels really good on the lips. And the packaging is to die for! I always feel so fancy when I pull this out to re-apply.
What are your holy grail lip products?
All through 8-11th grade I struggled immensely with redness in my cheeks. And I’m not talking about a cute pink flush, I’m talking bright tomato red on my quite fair skin, impossible to miss. It was a huge insecurity of mine. And back then it never even occurred to me to use foundation to cover it up because I never knew there existed ones good enough. I had experimented a little with makeup in 7th grade without much luck so I gave up on it. But then I started watching beauty videos on Youtube and found out about brands other than L’Oréal, Maybelline and Max Factor, and that was the start of the never-ending foundation hunt. Two years later, I’ve tested quite a few, resulting in my top 3 foundation picks as of right now:
Nars Sheer Glow Foundation – My perfect everyday foundation. It gives you a slight glow, has medium to high coverage and lasts all day long.
Chanel Vitalumière Aqua Foundation – Perfect for those days where your skin is looking pretty good but still needs something to spruce it up a bit. It offers a light coverage, maybe light-medium if you build it up. It has a dewey finish and evens out your skin tone. The only slight issue I have with this is that it has a quite strong scent to it. It doesn’t irritate my skin in any way but I always like it when products don’t have a distinct scent to it. This is a personal preference of course, I can imagine a lot of people likes the scent of this as it’s not unpleasant at all.
Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation – Oh my. I cannot get enough of this foundation. If they had a larger and less orange color selection, I would wear this all year long. But unfortunately I’m only able to wear this when I have a summer tan. This is pretty much the only foundation I use in the summer. It gives you that amazing fresh faced, glowing skin, while still looking natural. It’s medium coverage and looks best when applied with your fingers or the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. I first applied this with my Jemma Kidd Pro foundation brush and it looked really bad. Thankfully I gave it another shot! As you can see in the picture it has a light shimmer in it which can look quite intimidating but it’s not that noticeable once on the skin. However, I would not recommend this for people with oily skin, it would look too shiny and probably slide off pretty easily. But for us dry-skinned girls it’s perfect!
February always goes by so quickly, and personally I am OK with that as it means we are one month closer to spring, summer and to my three week long trip to Spain! Today I wanted to share with you my favorite beauty products that I was using in February. So let’s hop right in!
1. Nars Sheer Glow Foundation – This one is no stranger in my makeup bag. No matter what, I pretty much always come back to this foundation. I would say it’s medium to high coverage which is perfect for me in the winter months as I struggle quite a lot with redness. It gives a slightly dewey finish, which is my personal favorite kind of finish. Overall, just a good everyday foundation.
- Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base – Truthfully, I only bought this 8 days before the month was over, but I’m still putting it in my favorites. This can be worn alone or as a base for your foundation, it will brighten up your complexion which is perfect for those of us with lacklustre skin in the winter. It could also be used on your cheekbones for a very (and I mean very) subtle highlight.
Lancôme Artliner – I have been using the MAC Fluidline Gel Eyeliner for some time now but seeing as I am not yet an expert at applying eyeliner I found it quite hard to get the line as smooth as I wanted it to be. So after seeing this in one of Tanya Burr’s videos, i went ahead and bought it. It’s easy to apply and it looks great and that’s all I really want!
Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer with Sheer Finish Loose Powder – This is the first Bobbi Brown product I have introduced to my makeup collection but surely won’t be the last. I don’t really care for the loose powder, but the concealer is great! I use it for under my eyes and it covers up really nice. I’m excited to try more products from Bobbi Brown.
Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Shadow in ‘On And On Bronze’ – An old favorite of mine that rediscovered this past month. I had forgotten how gorgeous this eyeshadow is! On days where I want color on my eyelids but am too lazy to whip out several eyeshadows and brushes, this is what I grab instead. I apply it with my fingers all over the lid and voilà — super easy and quick and looks awesome!
Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler – After having used my old H&M eyelash curler way past its glory days I decided it was time to upgrade. The choice was easy — the hyped up Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler was soon clicked home. I had my doubts about this, but even after my first time using it I knew it was worth all the hype. It doesn’t hurt my lid or my lashes, the curl holds all day long and looks great on my hard-to-curl lashes.
That is it for my February Favorites this time. Let me know if you will be trying any of these products out. Also, what products have you been loving this month?
Last spring Estée Lauder came out with a gorgeous collection called Pretty Naughty. Included in this collection, was the almighty blush that is Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelée Blush in Tease. I first saw it in, I think, one of Tanya Burr’s youtube videos and immediately knew I had to get my hands on it. And so I searched high and low for it until I finally came across it in a Kicks store and my heart sung with joy. Although extortionately expensive (everything is double the price, if not triple, in Norway), and not so friendly to my student budget, I bought it without so much as an ounce of hesitation.
It’s the perfect pink shade, and it also acts as an illuminator.
It has now become my everyday, go-to blush, which is not the best idea, considering it’s a limited edition blush and will not be coming back anytime soon. But I simply can’t help but grab this in the morning as I crave for its pink, gorgeous shimmer to bring life to my face. The day the last powdery bit of this beauty is gone is the day I sit myself down in front of the computer and write a long letter with reasons why Estée Lauder should make this a part of their permanent collection. A blush this beautiful should not a limited product. It’s downright cruel!
